11:30 pm - reach Mtskheta and start exploring the areas

Mtskheta is a must-see if you are in Georgia. Our first stop will be at Mtskheta. It was the first capital of the Kingdom of Iberia (present-day Eastern Georgia), and its history of human habitation dates back to before 1000 B.C. Located at the point where the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers meet, just 20 kilometres from Tbilisi, the city sits in the centre of a historic trade route. Archaeologists have uncovered artifacts that attest to Mtskheta's former prominence as a commercial hub. The town's museum features numerous examples of the glass perfume bottles, Greek and Aramaic texts, pottery, metalwork, and jewelry that have been uncovered in the area.

Mtskheta was a fully developed city with a water supply system, markets, and stone homes, according to the Greek geographer Strabo. Several large shrines to Georgia's ancient pantheon could be found in Mtskheta; after St. Nino converted the kingdom to Christianity in about 337 AD, these pagan temples were replaced by Christian churches. Mtskheta remained the seat of the Patriarch, also known as the Bishop of Mtskheta, even after the capital was relocated to the more easily defended Tbilisi at the beginning of the VI century. When opposed to the frenetic speed of Tbilisi, the charming ancient town now feels more like a village.

1 pm - After exloring Mtskheta, let us see Jvari here

Javri is only a half-hour journey from Mtskheta point. The Jvari Monastery is a beautiful religious site. It is perched on the edge of a steep cliff near the old city of Mtskheta. The way the landscaped monastery was built, its technical standards, and its decorative design are all great examples of centuries-old Georgian architectural practices that take ideas from both Eastern and Western styles. The tetraconch style of architecture was not created in Georgia, but it had a particularly intricate evolution there. Numerous other churches have taken cues from the Great Church, which is the pinnacle of this style of architecture. Since its inception, the city of Jvari has served as a major pilgrimage destination and is now regarded as one of the holiest sites in all of the Caucasus. Major events are still held at the Great Church nowadays.
After exploring Javri Monastery, let us continue with our next stops

3 pm - Samtavro Monastory

The convent was constructed in 1820 instead of a small ancient wooden church from the 4th century erected by King Mirian. Its dome and some of the parts were reconstructed after the earthquake in the 13th and 14th centuries, with the addition of the sanctuary screen. The three-story bell tower was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The frescos there are dated the 16 th – the 17 th centuries. In the 17th century, the convent was renovated for the last time.

In 1820, a monastery was built on the site of what had been a tiny wooden church, originally built in the 4th century by King Mirian. In the 13th and 14th centuries, when an earthquake destroyed most of the building, it was rebuilt with the addition of a sanctuary screen. Construction of the bell tower, which has three levels, began during the 15th and 16th centuries. There are frescoes there that have been dated to the 16th and 17th centuries. The last renovations to the convent were made in the 17th century.

St. Gabriel, one of the most revered Georgian saints, is buried in the churchyard. Many visitors come here to pay their respects to the saint who is revered here. A statue honoring King Mirian and Queen Nana was erected in the church in 1906.

Driver was late

Our driver made us wait at Hotel golden's lobby in Tbilisi, it was a bad start for us. Fortunately other things went good. Giving 3* because of Punctuality issues.
